8 Reasons of Bad Breath

1. Inappropriate Oral Hygiene

It causes gum inflammation when the food accumulated on our teeth is not cleaned. This will cause gingival bleeding and bad breath. Regular daily brushing has a very important role in preventing bad breath.

2. Dental Caries

Untreated caries form cavities on the teeth. Nutrient residues accumulated on these cavities will lead to severe bad breath.

3. Dental Stones

There are bacteria and nutrient residues in the structure of the dental stone. Uncleaned tooth stones and bacteria that grow on it cause bad breath.

4. Not brushing the tongue

In some individuals, the indentations and protrusions on the tongue can be deep. In such a case, nutrient residues on the tongue will cause bad breath.

5. Unsuitable Prostheses

Prostheses which are not compatible with soft tissues in the mouth and do not have enough polish cause nutrient accumulation and infection in gingiva. Intraoral prostheses must be very well polished and in perfect harmony with the gums.

6. Tobacco Products Use

Smoking reduces saliva flow rate in the mouth. This increases the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Growing bacteria cause bad breath.

7. Alcohol Use

Alcohol triggers the formation of odor because of dry mouth. Alcohol reacts in the body to form components that will cause bad breath.

8. Diseases

Diabetes can cause the formation of acetone in the mouth. Diseases such as reflux, gastritis, stomach ulcers lead to bad breath. Respiratory tract infections and kidney diseases can also cause bad breath.
